Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 22, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how Chefff ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, processes, shares, and protects your information when you use our fitness and nutrition tracking application—with cooking and recipe features—our website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

2. Types of Data We Collect

We collect the categories of data described below. Certain categories may qualify as health-related or sensitive information under various privacy laws, depending on what you choose to provide.

2.1 Personal Data You Provide

We may collect personal data when you create an account or use the Service, such as:

  • Name and email address
  • Account and authentication information
  • Optional profile details you provide

2.2 Health and Nutrition Data

To provide calorie estimation, nutrition tracking, and related features, we may collect:

  • Food logs and nutrition data (including items photographed, scanned via barcode, or logged manually from our food database)
  • Recipe preferences and dietary restrictions
  • Saved recipes, meal plans, and cooking history
  • Nutrition-related goals or inputs you choose to enter

You decide how much of this information to provide. Some features may require certain inputs (for example, food entries or photos) to work.

2.3 User Content (Including Photos)

User Content may include:

  • Photos of food you snap or upload for calorie or nutrition analysis
  • Photos you upload of your cooking creations, if you choose to share them
  • Text entries, logs, and metadata associated with your use of the Service

We do not use your photos or other User Content to train machine learning models. We process User Content to operate the Service—for example, to analyze a meal photo and return a calorie or nutrition estimate to you—and to sync your data across devices.

2.4 Usage Data

We automatically collect usage data such as:

  • Device type, operating system, and app version
  • IP address and general location derived from IP
  • Timestamps, activity logs, and feature usage
  • Crash and performance data
  • On the website, browser type and similar technical data

2.5 Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Our website may use cookies, tags, and similar technologies for analytics, functionality, and security. The mobile application may use mobile identifiers for analytics. You can control browser cookies through your browser settings where applicable.

2.6 Session Recordings and Similar Analytics

We may record or replay sessions (for example, how you navigate screens, taps, and flows within the app or website) using session replay or similar tools. Where we do so, we process that information in anonymized or de-identified form so it cannot reasonably be linked to you or your account. We use this data to understand how the Service is used, diagnose issues, and improve the user experience.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use collected data for purposes including:

  • Providing and improving the Service (recipes, meal planning, calorie and nutrition features)
  • Processing User Content you submit—such as analyzing meal photos for estimates—without using that content for model training
  • Personalizing your experience and recommendations
  • Account management, security, fraud prevention, and debugging
  • Communicating with you about the Service, support, and important updates
  • Analytics to understand how the Service is used and to improve it
  • Analyzing anonymized or de-identified session recordings and interaction patterns to improve product quality, usability, and the overall user experience
  • Complying with applicable laws and enforcing our Terms of Service

4. Legal Bases for Processing (Where Applicable)

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or similar jurisdictions, we may rely on legal bases such as: performance of a contract with you, consent where required, legitimate interests (for example, securing and improving the Service, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights), and legal obligation.

5. How We Share Personal Data

We may share personal data in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: With vendors who support the Service (for example, cloud hosting, analytics, session replay or product analytics tools, customer support, authentication, or barcode or nutrition data sources), subject to appropriate safeguards
  • App stores: When you purchase subscriptions through Apple or Google, those platforms process payment and receive information needed to complete the transaction under their policies
  • Legal and safety: When required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of the Service, users, or others
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to applicable law
  • With your direction: When you ask us to share information
  • Aggregated or de-identified data: We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you

We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration.

6. User Content and License Rights

By submitting User Content, you grant Chefff a worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, process, reproduce, and modify User Content as needed to operate, maintain, and provide the Service—including analyzing images and logs to show you calorie and nutrition information and to sync your data across devices. This license does not permit us to use your User Content to train machine learning models.

7. How We Handle Your Recipe and Account Data

Your cooking and account data matter to us. In addition to the above:

  • Recipes you save, create, or modify remain your content; we store them to provide access across devices
  • We do not sell your recipe preferences, dietary information, or food logs to third parties
  • You control what recipes and cooking photos you choose to share with the community when those features are available
  • We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data
  • You can request access, correction, or deletion as described below and in your account settings where available

8. Third-Party Services

Chefff may integrate with third-party services to operate the Service. When we share data with providers, we limit sharing to what is necessary, use secure channels where appropriate, and require service providers to protect your information. Unless we disclose otherwise, we do not allow third-party providers to use your personal information to train their machine learning models.

9. Keeping Your Data Safe

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit where appropriate, access controls, and security monitoring. No online service is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain personal information for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including:

  • While your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward as needed for backup, legal, or security purposes
  • Food logs, photos, and nutrition data until you delete them or delete your account, subject to legal retention requirements
  • Usage data for periods appropriate for analytics and security, unless a longer period is required by law

When you delete your account, we work to delete or anonymize your personal data promptly, subject to applicable law and limited exceptions (for example, backups or legal holds).

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
  • Request data portability
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Appeal our decisions regarding privacy requests where applicable

You may exercise these rights by contacting us at the email below or through in-app settings where available. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

12. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website to track activity and hold certain information. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent.

13. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

14. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required by law, we implement appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for international transfers.

15. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are their own, and we do not control them.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice (for example, by email or in-app message) where appropriate.
